Disneyland officials confirmed that a pair of live shows at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will end their current runs on September 15. The Golden Horseshoe Saloon’s ‘Laughing Stock Co.’ and Pixar Pier’s Pixarmonic Orchestra band will see their shows come to an end, following the closures of the ‘Red Car News Boys’ show and the scaling back of the ‘Tale of the Lion King’ show.
The ‘Laughing Stock Co.’ show in Disneyland’s Frontierland is a showcase of Wild West-themed improvisational comedy, featuring the “side-splittin’ shenanigans” of Major Sam J. McGillicuddy, his daughter Sallie Mae, and Sheriff Clem Clodhopper. Playing unconventional instruments like kazoos, duck calls and slide whistles, the plaid-wearing members of the Pixarmonic Orchestra perform songs from Pixar films in an upbeat musical style inspired by Spike Jones and his City Slickers.
As reported by The Orange County Register, the live entertainment show closures come after a summer at Disneyland which saw an attendance decline of 3 percent following the opening of ‘Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.’ However, the article also references the fact that seasonal changes in entertainment at the Parks are a normal course of business, according to Disney officials, and that cast members of both shows may be scheduled to work in other areas of Disneyland or Disney California Adventure. In addition, to the delight of guests begging for its return, Disneyland has recently brought back the ‘Main Street Electrical Parade,’ and has announced a new daytime parade, ‘Magic Happens,’ for spring, 2020.
