Disney Channel has announced that, out of respect for the family and friends of Cameron Boyce, the beloved young actor who passed away suddenly last week at the age of 20, they have cancelled the red-carpet event previously planned for the premiere of Descendants 3. In addition, Disney Channel has received permission from Boyce’s family to dedicate the August 2nd telecast in Cameron’s memory, and plans to donate to a charity Boyce actively supported during his young life.
Disney issued this statement explaining their decision to cancel the DC movie event:
*”We’re proud to be part of Cameron Boyce’s legacy by showcasing his talents onscreen but we are canceling the red carpet premiere event for Descendants 3(scheduled for July 22) and instead, The Walt Disney Company will make a donation to the Thirst Project, a philanthropic organization to which Cameron was deeply committed. With permission from the Boyce family, Disney Channel will dedicate the telecast of ‘Descendants 3’ in Cameron Boyce’ s memory.”
Online tributes to the actor continue to pour in, as family, friends, colleagues, and fans worldwide express their shock and sadness at the loss of the young actor who was taken way too soon.
