With the recent announcements ahead of this weekend’s D23 Expo, we have yet another example of Tom Corless’ abysmal rumor track record. For those that don’t remember, Mr. Corless previously posted to WDWNT about a rumor saying that The Seas and The Land pavilions at Epcot would be closing forever as part of Epcot’s reimagining.
Now, any rational person would have thought it unlikely due to the fact that removing an aquarium the size of The Seas would be herculean task and removing the USDA facility in The Land pavilion would surely be a mountain of red tape. But WDWNT isn’t a normal news outlet. They have no regard for the truth, posting rumor after baseless rumor, sometimes even going so far as to claim their bogus information is “CONFIRMED.”
Mr. Corless’ stories have been so off base that even Disney, a company that typically stays above the fray, has branded him as a “unscrupulous” source.
Mr. Corless is petty and vindictive, having banned @MonorailNews and many others from viewing his personal Twitter account simply for pointing out his tendency to stretch the truth. I think Jenny Nicholson, who is also blocked from Mr. Corless’ account, put it best, comparing him to Rumpelstiltskin and saying that he “harass[es] literally everybody who mentions [WDWNT] on social media.”
Now, to be frank, I don’t like the phrase “fake news” there’s too much baggage associated with it. The phrase I prefer is “yellow journalism.” Mr. Corless is just a wannabe Joseph Pulitzer; a man who has no regard for honesty and will go to any lengths to get clicks for his website, even if it means deceiving the readers that trust him.
