It should come as no surprise that all companies are cutting back during this time of economic hardship. Disney is no exception. Therefore, Disney is looking long and hard at ongoing and future projects around the parks to make prudent financial decisions.
Earlier today, guests at EPCOT noticed that the Mary Poppins attraction and the renovation of Spaceship Earth were removed from the EPCOT Experience Preview Center. Now, Disney has confirmed to Laughing Place that both projects have been postponed, possibly indefinitely, although Disney did not indicate that they would be cancelling either project completely.
A Disney spokesperson had this to say, “as with most businesses during this period, we are further evaluating long-term project plans. The decision was made to postpone development of the “Mary Poppins”-inspired attraction and Spaceship Earth at this time.”
While this is certainly unfortunate news, it does give hope for the new festival center and the ‘Journey of Water Inspired by Moana’ walkthrough attraction, not to mention the other ongoing projects around property like the TRON Lightcycle Run.
