Cast Members at Walt Disney World received a memo today confirming the permanent closures of two attractions that had been “temporarily closed” for quite some time, and another that is not returning following the closing of the Parks due to COVID-19.
Both Primeval Whirl at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Stitch’s Great Escape at Magic Kingdom are now both officially closed. Primeval Whirl has, in fact, been removed from all of the guidemaps and attraction lists for Animal Kingdom. Prior to the global pandemic, it was rumored that Stitch’s Great Escape would be replaced with a new “Wreck-It Ralph” attraction. With the Parks now reopened, the status of that project seems uncertain.
As with all of the shows, parades and nighttime spectaculars at Walt Disney World, Animal Kingdom’s Rivers of Light did not return after the Parks’ prolonged closure due to social distancing protocols. Plans for a new version of the nighttime water event announced last year were said to include elements from the “EPCOT Forever” show, such as the kite technology special effects. There is no word presently on when the new Animal Kingdom nighttime spectacular will premiere.
