In a filing with the state of Florida, Marriott has announced that 1136 employees of the Swan and Dolphin Resorts at Walt Disney World will be laid off on November 13, 2020. The terminations are expected to be permanent.
Describing the effects of COVID-19 on the travel industry as “historic, swift and devastating,” Marriott referenced business forecasts for the remainder of 2020 and into 2021 as challenging times for the travel industry due to historically low hotel occupancy rates and ever-increasing event cancellations.
Marriott continues with the construction of a brand new resort at Walt Disney World, The Swan Reserve, which is currently set to open during the summer of 2021.
