As performance spaces in Disneyland remain dark due to the theme park’s continued closure, Disneyland officials announced today that two shows have reached the end of their runs. In a report from the Orange County Register, Disney confirmed that both Frozen – Live at the Hyperion and Mickey and the Magical Map are officially closed.
According to The American Guild of Variety Artists West, the closing of the two Disneyland shows will result in the layoffs of 214 union members, or over 70% of their membership. As of today, those layoff notices have not yet been sent to the casts of either show.
Although ‘end of run’ notices like those received by the Frozen and Mickey performers “technically means that the show has been permanently closed,” according to AVGA West representative Steve Rosen, Disney has sent out show closure notices to cast members before and then reopened the show at a later date.
With the ongoing pandemic and the lack of precise guidelines for theme park reopenings provided by the State of California, an opening date for Disneyland remains unknown.
