Disney has announced that they will be closing “Frozen” on Broadway following the pandemic. “Frozen” is the first Broadway musical you close due to COVID-19.
“This difficult decision was made for several reasons but primarily because we believe that three Disney productions will be one too many titles to run successfully in Broadway’s new landscape,” said Thomas Schumacher, the president of Disney Theatrical Productions.
Frozen was the lowest performing Disney show currently on Broadway. The show cost an estimated $25 to $30 million to produce and as of February was only grossing $1 million weekly, down from a peak of $2.6 million.
Disney remains committed to “Aladdin” and “The Lion King.”
