As part of its massive efforts to maintain proper social distancing measures and limit physical contact among Guests and Cast Members, Disney has announced that upon the reopening of Walt Disney World on July 11, all character dining experiences will be cancelled. All Guests with existing reservations for character dining were notified by email this week that these dining events “cannot be provided” when the Parks welcome back Guests later this summer. There is no word yet if character dining venues may offer an alternative form of entertainment in the months ahead.
This should come as no surprise, as most special events where Guests are normally gathered closely together, including fireworks, parades and character meet-and-greets, have been cancelled in-advance of the Parks’ reopening. Striving to offer Guests the Magic they know and love while upholding social distancing and safety standards, Disney hopes to still have characters appear in the Parks without coming into direct contact with Guests, much like the Stormtroopers have done this month at Disney Springs.
