Cars is Headed to Disneyland Paris with the Transformation of Catastrophe Canyon At Walt Disney Studios Park

With the announcement today of the reopening of Disneyland Paris on July 15, Disney also released some new concept art of the transformation of Catastrophe Canyon at Walt Disney Studios Park. The former Backlot Tour will soon become Cars Route 66, and today we received a glimpse at the plans for the retheming of Catastrophe Canyon.

“Cars Route 66” and “Disney Junior Dream Factory” are still scheduled to open “soon” at Walt Disney Studios Park.
Here’s a new concept art showing the rethemed Catastrophe Canyon for Cars Route 66.
According to early descriptions by Disney, Guests will “buckle up and join Cars’ stars Lightning McQueen and Mater for a fun-filled family road trip where they will discover natural and mechanical wonders along the legendary Route 66.”
As seen on the map below, the rethemed attraction shares a similar footprint with Catastrophe Canyon, with the addition of the iconic characters from the Cars‘ films:
The Studio Tram Tour overall, however, will need to be shortened greatly to accommodate the reimagining of the Walt Disney Studios Park. As depicted in the concept art below, the current entrance to the Studio Tram Tour is in the middle of the plans for the future “Main Street” area:
