Today, audiences both in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access can finally watch the long awaited Disney Parks based movie, Jungle Cruise.
And let me just say, it lives up to the hype. Maybe that’s just the theme park fan in me who appreciated all of the references to the classic attraction, from Dr. Albert Falls to the lines literally lifted directly from the Skipper’s attraction script (the Backside of Water, anyone?), but that wasn’t all that the movie had going for it. Being a lighthearted period piece, the movie had a tone similar to the fan favorite Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, which may or may not be a good thing, if audiences feel that it’s trying too hard to recapture old magic.
Dwayne Johnson’s performance was typical of him, which is to say, good, especially when you consider that he was a former WWE Wrestler, which when I think about it is just acting, so maybe my point doesn’t hold up. Emily Blunt was definitely the standout star of the movie for me, which was to be expected.
Disney Parks fans and causal movie goers alike will enjoy this fun romp through the jungle.
