If you’ve been following the Disney drama sphere over the past couple of days, you’ve probably heard that Disney CEO Bob Chapek will not be speaking at the Destination D23 event this weekend, despite previously being scheduled to be there.
Some people have attributed this not to a scheduling conflict to blatant disregard for “the fans” or fears of receiving a chilly welcome at the event. Today, Mr. Chapek addressed the issue on Disney’s “D23 Inside Disney Podcast,” saying this:
I’m sorry, I had every intention of trying to make it this year, as you know I’ve made the last several. I really love that event. Unfortunately, this year given the new job and given the tugs I get from several different areas it’s impossible for me to make it but I will be there in spirit.

Despite Mr. Chapek’s absence, Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products is still scheduled to attend.
He’s full of crap. He’s bailing so he doesn’t have to face a ton of booing from Disney fans who’ve had it with him.
