Disney+ subscribers and Marvel fans everywhere have been eagerly awaiting the release of Marvel’s next Disney+ original series, Hawkeye, and the wait is absolutely worth it.
Hawkeye is the first of Marvel’s Disney+ Original Series to feel like a classic TV show. It’s relatively light and fun, after all the stakes are lower, no one’s threatening to wipe out half the universe with a snap of a finger.
Disney treated me to the first two episodes and a press conference a couple of weeks back and I’m glad I watched them alone, in the privacy of my home, because there were moments when I cheered, stood up and gasped, moved closer to the TV in shock, and acted like an all around lunatic.
This show elicited a visceral reaction out of me, maybe it was the fact that the show is just good, plain fun. A show where you can just sit back and relax and let the drama unfold around you and engross you.
I can’t say enough positive things about the leads in the show, Jeremy Renner is naturally the perfect Clint Barton, as you’d expect based on every one of his many performances as Hawkeye in the MCU. However, the standout was, to me, Hailee Steinfeld who plays expert, over-eager archer Kate Bishop to a tee. Her performance felt incredibly believable and real.
I have to give props to two sequences in particular that just took the show over the top for me. The first is the opening sequence with a young Kate in her family’s penthouse apartment in New York during the Battle of New York from the first Avengers movie. Just a really good callback and a really good sequence.
I also have to compliment the Avengers musical that Clint and his family went to see, entitled Rogers. It had me doubling over with laughter, which was not the reaction Clint had, but I digress.
Look, between this, Encanto, and Home Sweet Home Alone you have plenty to watch for the remainder of your Thanksgiving week.
I’ll let you get to it!
Gray is a lifelong Disney fan! From Disney+ to the parks, he loves it all. His favorite Disney movie is Beauty and the Beast, and his favorite attraction is The Haunted Mansion.
It sounds absolutely great. Your review was wonderful. Can’t wait to see it.
