On June 3, Disney+ subscribers will have the opportunity to join Stargirl on another adventure. Picking up where the first movie, based on the novel “Love, Stargirl”, this entirely original sequel sees Stargirl and her mother move to the City of Angels, Los Angeles
Throughout the movie, Stargirl is her typical free-spirited self, sure to delight the optimists in the audience. Pessimists need not apply. That really is the crux of the movie and of Stargirl’s magnetic aura; looking at every day as full of wonder and life.
Naturally, the movie features Stargirl’s musical prowess and leans heavily into her newest musical challenge, writing original songs (if you remember, in the original Stargirl she only sang covers). Therefore, the movie would not work without Grace VanderWaal’s musical talent, which to me was the highlight of the entire film.
Grace and her co-stars are all good actors, but the music was what I most enjoyed about both Stargirl installments. After the last movie came out I had “Be True to Your School” stuck in my head for months and the original music from this movie is well on its way to becoming my latest earworm.
