Internationally-renowned Disney historian, Jim Korkis, has sadly passed away at the age of 72, following a battle with a series of significant medical issues.
The news was shared by Mark Goldhaber, the organizer of the GoFundMe campaign established to assist with Korkis’ medical and household expenses. The historian was found unresponsive at a rehabilitation center and quickly transported to the hospital, where he peacefully passed away.
Earlier this year, Korkis faced a series of unforeseen health challenges. An accident at his home in February led to the discovery of multiple arterial blockages, which subsequently required a quadruple bypass heart surgery. Unfortunately, while recovering, Korkis contracted COVID-19 and was also diagnosed with stage four inoperable colon cancer that had metastasized to his liver.
Renowned for his extensive work on Disney history, Korkis authored thousands of articles and numerous books, such as “The Unofficial Walt Disney World 1971 Companion: Stories of How the World Began,” and “The Vault of Walt” series. His tireless dedication to preserving and sharing the history of the Disney franchise won him respect and admiration from fans and scholars worldwide.
A GoFundMe campaign is currently ongoing to support Korkis’ medical and household costs. So far, the campaign has raised over $41,261 of its $60,000 goal across 648 donations.
A memorial service for Korkis will be held on a date to be determined and will be accessible via Zoom, enabling friends, fans, and colleagues from across the globe to attend. Details of the memorial will be announced once arrangements have been finalized.
The world mourns the loss of a beloved historian whose contributions to the understanding and preservation of Disney’s legacy will continue to inspire and educate generations to come. Our thoughts are with Jim Korkis’ family and friends during this difficult time.
