Shanghai, December 20, 2023 – It’s a big day at Shanghai Disney Resort, as the gates opened to the much-anticipated Zootopia-themed land. This one of a kind area, inspired by the beloved Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Zootopia,” was inaugurated with a celebration as lively and diverse as the film’s own mammalian city.
The opening ceremony was a star-studded affair, with Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, leading the festivities. Joining him were top executives from Shanghai Disney Resort and Shanghai Shendi Group, and, of course, Zootopia’s own Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. Adding to the excitement was Jared Bush, the creative force behind “Zootopia,” who’s also spearheading the next installment in the film series.
Bob Iger shared his excitement with the crowd: “For 100 years, we’ve been telling stories that touch hearts across the world. Zootopia, with its universal appeal, especially here in China, is a shining example of this. Now, with this new land at Shanghai Disney Resort, we’re bringing those stories and characters to life in an entirely new and exciting way.”
As guests walk down Mane Street, they’re immediately whisked away to the vibrant city of Zootopia, recreated with an eye for detail that Disney is renowned for. This achievement is the culmination of years of hard work by Disney Imagineers, artists from Walt Disney Animation Studios, and a host of international talents.
The crown jewel of the new land is the “Zootopia: Hot Pursuit” attraction. This cutting-edge ride, featuring a trackless ride system, takes guests on a high-speed chase through the city’s various districts. The ride showcases the latest advancements in Audio-Animatronics technology, promising an engaging experience from the moment guests step into the land.
But there’s more to Zootopia than just thrills. The land is peppered with unique experiences that showcase Disney’s knack for storytelling. For instance, the Zootopia Park Apartments offer an engaging atmosphere show where guests can see the animated residents of Zootopia going about their daily lives.
And what’s a day at Disney without some shopping and dining? The land features “Fashions by Fru Fru” for those looking to take a piece of Zootopia style home and “Jumbeaux’s Cafe” for fans of the film’s iconic eatery. Along with various casual dining spots, these additions ensure that every visit to Zootopia is as delightful for the palate as it is for the eyes.
With this new addition, Shanghai Disney Resort has once again proven its ability to bring magic to life, making it a top destination for families and Disney enthusiasts worldwide. This isn’t just a new theme park land; it’s a celebration of imagination, a testament to what happens when creativity and technology dance together. Zootopia-themed land is more than just a tribute to a hit film – it’s a vibrant, living piece of the Disney story.
