Hollywood, CA – In a groundbreaking announcement that has Star Wars fans across the galaxy buzzing with excitement, Lucasfilm revealed that the beloved duo from the hit Disney+ series “The Mandalorian” – the enigmatic Mandalorian and his endearing companion Grogu – are set to star in their own feature film.
The project, which is slated to go into production in 2024, will be directed by Jon Favreau, a name synonymous with revitalizing the Star Wars franchise on television. Favreau, who will also serve as a producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni, expressed his enthusiasm about the new venture. “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created. The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting,” Favreau shared.
Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, echoed Favreau’s sentiments. She emphasized the significant impact that Favreau and Filoni have had on the Star Wars universe, introducing two characters who have captured the hearts of viewers worldwide. “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered in two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen,” Kennedy said.
The movie, tentatively titled “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” is poised to lead Lucasfilm’s ongoing feature-development slate. This slate includes films directed by luminaries such as Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and James Mangold. Additionally, Dave Filoni, a key figure in the Star Wars animated universe, is currently developing the second season of “Ahsoka.”
