Walt Disney World has announced new details about the upcoming Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ride, set to open this summer. Most notably, Disney has revealed the names and personalities of the adorable Audio Animatronic critter characters that will play a key role in this musical adventure inspired by “The Princess and the Frog.”
In the attraction’s story, Princess Tiana is preparing to throw a big Mardi Gras party in the bayou. However, when a mix-up occurs between Prince Naveen and Louis, Tiana finds herself in need of a band at the last minute. Guests will join Tiana and Louis as they search the bayou for a group of musical critters to provide the essential ingredient – live music.
During the journey, riders will encounter a band of charming animal musicians playing a rendition of the song “Gonna Take You There” from the film. The critters perform on makeshift instruments crafted from natural materials and found objects. Walt Disney Imagineering has created original characters for this scene, each with their own distinct personality:
- Byhalia the Beaver – a strong-willed percussionist who helps build instruments
- Gritty the Rabbit – a high-energy washboard player using an old license plate
- Beau the Opossum – a bassist who plucks low notes with her tail
- Apollo the Raccoon – an accordion player who transforms abandoned objects into instruments
- Rufus the Turtle – a quick-witted harmonica player always ready for adventure
- Timoléon the Otter – the band’s eldest, a fiddle player inspired by the bayou youngsters
In addition to these musically gifted critters, Tiana wonders what other friends she may find in the bayou, hinting at more characters yet to be revealed. Walt Disney Imagineering’s lead concept designer Laura West is credited as the creator behind these delightful new additions to the Disney character family.
For fans wishing to take home their own critter friend, Disney has announced that plush versions of Beau, Apollo, and Rufus will soon be available for purchase.
The introduction of original characters specifically for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure demonstrates the attraction’s scope and Disney’s commitment to expanding the beloved world of “The Princess and the Frog.” As anticipation builds for the ride’s debut this summer, guests can look forward to a memorable musical journey filled with charm, heart, and a lively cast of bayou critters.
