Disney is making a major change to DVC resale contracts beginning on January 19, 2019. Beginning on that date, anyone who purchases a resale contract for one of the 14 original DVC resorts will only be able to stay at those resorts. That means that anyone who purchases a resale contract after the 19th of this month will not be able to stay at Disney’s new Riviera Resort or at the upcoming Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge at Walt Disney World.
Also once sales for the Riviera Resort begin, those who purchase a contract for that resort on the resale market will be limited to staying only at that resort. This only applies to resale contracts. To be clear, anyone who purchases a resale contract with Disney’s Riviera Resort as their home resort will not be able to use their DVC points to stay at any of the existing Disney Vacation Club Resorts or, presumably, at any future DVC resorts.
If an individual submits their contract Disney for the right of first refusal before January 19 will be grandfathered in, and therefore that individual will be able to use their points to stay at Disney’s Riviera Resort or Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge when those resorts open.
