The mystical aura of the bayou is set to come alive as Disney reveals captivating details about “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure,” an upcoming attraction at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. Scheduled to open in 2024, the attraction promises to immerse guests in the vibrant world of Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen, complete with a Mardi Gras celebration.
Visitors will encounter a familiar face as they embark on their journey—Mama Odie, the beloved Bayou Fairy Godmother from Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog.” In newly released concept art for the attraction, Mama Odie, accompanied by her “seeing eye snake” Juju, is shown using her magic to entertain and guide guests. The character, known for her comical yet wise demeanor, will be voiced by legendary actress Jenifer Lewis, who reprised her role from the original film.
Disney also announced a collaboration with New Orleans artist and YAYA Arts Center alumna, Sharika Mahdi, who has provided valuable insight and artistic inspiration for the attraction. Mahdi’s artwork, a four-part tribute series to Mama Odie, features flowing brush strokes that offer visual cues for the “floating journey” ahead. The artwork plays a crucial role in shaping Mama Odie’s appearance within the attraction.
“Tiana’s Bayou Adventure” boasts a host of unique features, including a brand-new cast of original Disney characters, dozens of state-of-the-art Audio-Animatronics figures, and a diverse soundtrack that blends original music with favorite tunes from the film. Disney also teased an aromatic treat for guests—a delightful scent of beignets will waft through the attraction queue.
Additional talent voices from the film will return, including Bruno Campos as Prince Naveen, Michael Leon Wooley as Louis, and Anika Noni Rose as Princess Tiana. Familiar characters such as Eudora, Charlotte, “Big Daddy,” the King and Queen of Maldonia, and Prince Ralphie will also make appearances.
The attraction builds upon the story of Princess Tiana, a character celebrated for her determination and the universal message that dreams can come true. “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure” aims to transport Disney Parks guests into her world like never before.
To make way for this magical experience, Splash Mountain at Disneyland park will be closed starting May 31, 2023, as the next phase of development for “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure” begins. Disney fans are eagerly anticipating this enchanting addition to the parks, and the adventure that awaits within the illuminated bayou.
